Can architecture solve Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

Architecture student Viktor Ramos has a great idea that may solve the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Instead of building walls or tunnels we can create bridges so two states can live together, superposed. This could be the only way to have the two countries living together in peace: on top and below each other.

“This thesis takes a formal approach to understanding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by studying mechanisms of control within the West Bank. The occupation of the West Bank has had tremendous effects on the urban fabric of the region because it operates spatially. Through the conflict, new ways of imagining territory have been needed to multiply a single sovereign territory into many. It is only through the overlapping of two separate political geographies that they are able to inhabit the same landscape.”( Viktor Ramos )

The large bridge between Israel and Palestinian territories can sustain life, house people, and allow for the free transit of people.

Both countries Israel and Palestine will have bridges over each other’s ground, so everybody is happy. This is in theory. The idea could be interesting but what about the land under the bridge? Wouldn’t be a little dark there? Because would be covered by the bridge?

I think this is one of the biggest problem of the project. It is good that people around the world are thinking about solving this conflict!

I think, this idea is really silly! This attitude would share only retard who don’t really know what’s happening there. This conflict is not about two nations or a religion. The real cause is the foreign policy of the US and their military support of Izrael. What about thinking about it in this way instead of building such a crap!

I think the way it is shown is quite impresive and the area where it is located, but i don’t understand the idea of the bridge. is it a living bridge? if it is, who leave on the top. are the Palestinians leave close to nature and the israeli above?

I really don’t understand the solution.

If you read the manifesto of the architect, you’ll realise that this project is essentially conceived as a satire. Underlining the absurdity of the present spatial regime in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the impossibility of creating two coherent national spaces within this paradigm of thinking.

“Ultimately, this thesis questions the potential absurdity of partition strategies within the West Bank and Gaza Strip by attempting to realize them.” Viktor Ramos
